If your models have only ever flown in a simulation, this isn’t the role. If your hardware has gone to space, read on.
A fast-growing space company on the Business Campus in Garching builds large deployable structures for European flight missions. It’s adding one or two Structural Analysis Engineers to a team of six, working under the team lead. Your analyses will drive design decisions on the hardware.
What you’ll do
Define the analysis scope with project stakeholders, then build and validate complex FEM models: modal, sine, random and thermal
Run mechanical and thermal simulations in ANSYS (APDL/Workbench) and/or FEMAP/NASTRAN
Back up FEA with hand calculations, scripting and spreadsheets, and document your assumptions honestly
Report results clearly to internal teams and external partners
What you’ll bring
At least three years of professional structural analysis in the space sector, ideally European. Aviation or general aerospace experience on its own won’t meet this brief.
An MSc or PhD in mechanical or structural engineering
Hands-on mastery of ANSYS APDL/Mechanical, plus FEMAP and NASTRAN
Scripting in Python, MATLAB/Octave or Fortran, comfort with Git, and sharp hand calculations
English at C1. German at B2 is a plus.
A plus: non-linear FEA and ESA/ECSS standards
The package
€60,000–€85,000 base, with a discretionary bonus up to twice a year. Mainly on site in Garching, with one home-office day a week after onboarding, a six-minute walk to the U-Bahn, and an international team. Engineers relocating from elsewhere in Europe or the UK are welcome. The company wants people building a long-term career in Germany.
To apply, send your CV and a short note on the space hardware you’ve analysed to careers@protodigy.com.
