System Engineer Linux (m/w/d)

Stop Scrolling. Is Your Linux Expertise Being Wasted in Corporate Bureaucracy?

Let’s be completely candid: the market is flooded with generic system administration roles that promise "innovation" but actually deliver endless red tape and micromanagement. This is not one of those roles.

Here at Protodigy Consultancy, we are hiring on behalf of an incredibly stable, highly respected IT Services and Managed Hosting provider based in Frankfurt am Main. They are a 54-person powerhouse where the leadership actually understands the tech stack, the hierarchies are genuinely flat, and the engineering freedom is real.

We are searching for a System Engineer Linux (m/w/d) who thrives on the command line and is ready to take absolute ownership of high-availability environments.

If you are looking for a fully remote role to hide out in, or if you are a Windows Admin looking to dabble in Linux, look away now. But if you are a proactive, hands-on engineer who wants to leave rigid corporate mindsets behind, we need to talk.

The Absolute Non-Negotiables

We value your time, so let’s get the dealbreakers out of the way immediately. To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • C1 German & B2 English: This is a hard technical requirement. Your daily operations and complex architecture discussions will be conducted entirely in German.

  • Command Line Fluency: Deep, professional expertise in Linux system administration (CentOS, RHEL, Debian).

  • Database Mastery: Strong, hands-on experience with MySQL configuration and clustering.

  • Automation Chops: Proven proficiency with Puppet and Ansible.

  • Hybrid Commitment: A willingness to work from the Frankfurt am Main HQ for 50% of the week (2–3 days onsite).

The Tech Playground

You won't be a small cog in a massive machine. You will be actively shaping the infrastructure. Your day-to-day will involve:

  • Operating and maintaining high-availability Linux server landscapes for household-name clients.

  • Deploying and maintaining open-source software stacks (Apache, Nginx, Tomcat, Varnish).

  • Driving automation and configuration management using Puppet and Ansible.

  • Working heavily with virtualisation platforms (KVM, RHEV/oVirt) and modern containerised environments.

  • Engaging directly in architecture discussions and proactive performance management.

The Package & Perks

You bring the expertise, and our client brings a comprehensive support system tailored for professionals.

  • Salary: €60,000 – €85,000 gross/year (plus a 13th-month salary split into vacation and Christmas bonuses).

  • Time Off: 30 days of annual leave.

  • Flexibility: Trust-based working hours with core hours between 11:00 and 16:00.

  • Growth: A guaranteed €2,000+ yearly education budget to spend freely on your development, plus support for additional certifications.

  • Lifestyle: Paid Deutschlandticket, JobRad bike leasing, and corporate fitness via Fit 7/11.

The Interview Process

We despise drawn-out hiring loops just as much as you do. Our process is transparent, decisive, and focused on mutual fit:

  1. CV Screening: Rapid review by the HR team.

  2. Technical Deep Dive: A straightforward, honest first interview with the technical decision-makers (no fluff, just tech).

  3. Onsite Meet & Greet: A day at the Frankfurt HQ to meet your future colleagues, see the workspace, and ensure the culture is a perfect match.

  4. Offer & Contract Finalisation.

Ready to step up?

If you have the technical depth and the C1 German proficiency to back it up, do not ignore this.
